So, Red Bull is buying Major League Soccer’s NY-based MetroStars and renaming the team Red Bull New York. Read it here or here. What a coup! What sheer brilliance! I have been an admirer of Red Bull for years.

The Austrian-based company is sublime in its marketing, choosing its evangelists carefully and approaching the role of marketing with both glee and strategic restraint.

Red Bull is at the top of the game, and represents the future of brand-building. This move isn’t a sponsorship effort, nor a PR play. This is pure business. The leaugue is growing. The World Cup is coming. Red Bull knows that the league will prosper and thrive, and it will shape it and revolutionize it into the next NASCAR. You heard it here first, folks!
